Making their way around the bike-o-sphere this week are these mock-ups of super cool Nike HINDSIGHT sunglasses, apparently designed to give an extra 25 degrees of peripheral vision to cyclists everywhere. Read on for additional info, photos and specs diagram:
“Nike Hindsight is, put simply, like giving bicyclists a pair of bifocals for their peripheral vision. By using Fresnel lenses on the sides of eye wear, riders can detect motion in a field of view beyond the normal human limit of 180º. To get technical, high power, diverging Fresnel zones aligned vertically distort into view an extra 25º of view on either side. In doing this, vision is radically distorted in the periphery, but as the eye detects only motion in that area, little clarity is lost in the process.”
I can say that having some extra peripheral would not be the worst thing in the world, and the glasses themselves don’t look too shabby either. However, the guy in this next picture is going to need some Nike SUPERBODYARMOUR to deal with the Hyundai sneaking in at 3 o’clock.
PS – I thought Nike was out of the bicycle clothing/accessories business??
